Megillah Case, Black Leather and Fur Tube #1380

Black leather with fur, design 1380 — the third of the fur-and-leather tubes and, like the others, built around the contrast between a smooth ground and a worked pile. What distinguishes 1380 from its neighbours is the cut of the body and where the fur is placed, which is easier to see in hand than to describe.

The case comes at 17.7 inches and 14 inches. A full klaf needs the larger; the 14 inch suits a shorter scroll and is a more manageable object for a boy. Both sizes include the personalized snap-on handle, and it detaches, so the tube goes down flat on a bench for the reading and gets picked up again by the handle after.

If the case is going out as a gift, the fur is what makes it read as one. A plain leather tube looks like equipment; fur makes the same object look like a present, and the recipient still gets a case that will hold the scroll for decades.
