Description
Crushed velvet gives the ground of #446 a broken, moving grain, and over it sits an embroidered crown. The two treatments work against each other deliberately — the crushed surface never settles into a flat plane, so the crown stays the only fixed point on the face. The quilting adds a light padding through the body of the bag.
Four sizes are made: the 8.5" x 9.5" tefillin bag, supplied without stones, the 10" x 10.5" bar mitzvah bag, the 14" x 14" large talis bag and the 16" x 16" extra large. The tefillin sizes take a single pair; the two larger sizes hold a tallis with tefillin alongside, with the 16x16 giving the most room.
Crushed velvet is forgiving of handling in a way flat velvet is not — the irregular surface disguises the small marks that a bag picks up from a shul bench and a car seat. For daily use over years, that is a genuine advantage.
