Leather Challah Cover with Crystals, Matching Challah Board Available #690

Leather rather than cloth, which changes the whole character of the piece. Embroidery stitched into leather keeps its line — there is no pile for the thread to sink into and no weave to distort it — so the design on 690 stays sharp and stays put over years of being folded back twice a week. Sterling crystal work is set into the hide alongside the stitching, and the leather itself carries a low sheen that reads differently under candlelight than fabric does.

The three sizes are 14.5 by 17.5, 15.5 by 19.5 and 19.5 by 23.5. Leather has more body than velvet or linen, so it holds its shape on the table and does not slump over the challos the way a soft cloth will. That makes the larger cuts practical rather than merely generous — a large 690 sits flat and stays flat.

A challah board is cut in the same 690 design, and it is one of the better reasons to buy this particular number. Malchut also produces 690 as a haggadah cover and a matzah cover for the seder table.
