Description
The 1028 embroidery on white velvet. Against a white ground the pattern reads by thread rather than by contrast, which softens it considerably compared with the black version of the same number — identical design, an entirely different impression from a few feet away.
Small at 13 by 10 inches, medium at 16 by 10.5. If the shofar is shared — a house where the boys blow through Elul and their father blows on Rosh Hashanah — the medium is the sensible one, since a horn going in and out several times a day is better off in a bag it slides into rather than one it has to be worked into.
The natural pairing is a white velvet tallis and tefillin bag in the same 1028 design, and that is how most of these are bought: not on their own, but as the second piece to something already owned and used every day.
