Description
Design 1802 belongs to the hard-sided end of the Malchut esrog cases, the kind that holds its shape no matter what gets stacked against it. The body measures 7.5 by 4 by 3.5 inches, deep enough for a full-grown esrog to sit in its padding without pressing on a wall, and the rigid shell keeps the box from flexing when it is carried under an arm or set down on a crowded bench.
A snap-on handle comes with it. Clipped on, the case is easy to carry in one hand with the lulav in the other; snapped off, it sits flat and low on a shtender through davening, which is what you want when hoshanos begin and everything has to be picked up again quickly. There is a single size here and it is the size a grown esrog needs, so this is a case a man buys once and takes out each Sukkos.
Of the four minim, the esrog is the one that bruises, and a hard case is the plain answer to that. Design 1802 suits the buyer who would rather the shell did the protecting than his own careful hands.
