Description
The 1865 is a hard case for the esrog, built to 7.5 by 4 by 3.5 inches. What you are paying for is the shell: it does not squash, it does not fold, and it keeps the same shape whether the esrog is inside it on Yom Tov or it is empty on a shelf in Shevat. The padding does the cushioning, the walls do the defending.
A snap-on handle is part of the case. It clips on for the walk to shul and lifts off when you get there, leaving a low box that sits neatly on a bench through Hallel and hoshanos. The case is made in one size only, matched to a full-grown esrog with its wrapping.
Design 1865 is also available as a megillah case, so the number can be carried across from Sukkos to Purim. For a man buying his first serious esrog case — often the year he buys his first serious esrog — picking a number that has a matching piece behind it is the difference between one purchase and a set that grows.
