Tallis

A tallis is the fringed prayer shawl worn for Shacharis. Customs differ on when it is first worn, at bar mitzvah or after marriage. This page lists wool talleisim from Malchut Judaica and Mefoar Judaica, including the Chabad wool tallis with black stripes and the Mefoar Deluxe with white stripes, and embroidered raw silk and decorative talleisim from Alef To Tav, including Yair Emanuel designs, plus an acrylic shul tallis.

Choose the fabric first: wool is the traditional fabric, while raw silk and cotton are used for decorative styles. Then pick a size. Numbers such as 55, 60, 70 and 80 are labels set by each maker, not universal measurements, and in some lines size 63 is larger than 70, so compare the fabric dimensions on the listing. Finally, check the stripes (black, blue, or white on white) and whether the tallis comes with tzitzis tied, in thick or thin strings, or without strings.

FAQs

How do I choose a tallis size?

Size numbers are labels set by each product line, and two talleisim with the same number can have different dimensions. Compare the measurements on the listing, or see our tallis size guide.

Wool, silk or acrylic: what's the difference?

Wool is the traditional fabric for a tallis. Silk is used for some decorative talleisim, and the acrylic shul tallis here costs less than the wool talleisim. If you have a question about which fabric fits your minhag, ask your rav.

Does the tallis come with tzitzis attached?

Check the listing. The tzitzis type and string thickness are shown in the product details or options.

Do you carry tallis bags and atarahs?

Yes. See our tallis bags and tallis clips and accessories pages.
